Members of the Moshav Mivtahim security Squad had to deal with the 7 October bombers' attack with almost no ammunition. They were able to return fire the terrorists, extract a family who had been shot in a van and also fight off, together with the security squad of the nearby Moshav Yesha, dozens of terrorists.

Ravshatz (Military Ongoing Security Coordinator) Dan Asulin dispatches the security squad after reports of the presence of terrorists in the area. The emergency squad has only three rifles, due to the Army's decision a few months earlier to collect the weapons due to thefts. Of the 13 members of the security squad, only four were armed: Dan Asulin, Tal Maman, Ben Nahum, and Sagiv Beeri who joined with his private handgun

A squad of four other terrorists arrives on the scene on motorcycles and fires an RPG at the four members of the security squad. They position themselves behind barricades and return fire. Dan Harbash receives messages about the infiltration of terrorists into Moshav Mivtahim, realizing that at those moments the entire security squad is at the intersection and not in the moshav. Members of the security squad return to the moshav and notice a bullet-riddled pickup truck in which a family from Rahat who worked in agriculture in the moshav is found. The father of the family was killed in the shooting. His brother asks for their help, and they remove from the car his 5-year-old nephew Atalla Abu-Madigam, who is seriously wounded in his stomach. While medically treating the boy, another barrage is fired toward the moshav, and everyone evacuates to a shelter. Members of the security squad are notified of terrorists found near the home of the parents of Dan, the Ravshatz.
About eight black-clad terrorists shout “Allahu Akbar,” shoot and throw grenades at members of the security squad. At the same time, other terrorists positioned on the roofs of adjacent houses are firing sniper shots at the security squad. The Moshav Mivtahim force is joined by three members of the nearby Moshav Yesha security squad. The seven engage in a face-to-face battle against the terrorists who surround them from all directions. Five of the fighters of the security squad are killed during this battle: Dan Asulin, Tal Maman, Itay Nahmias, Gil Avital, and Lior Ben Yaakov.
Following the exchange of fire, the terrorists break into Dan Asulin's parents' house near the square and evacuate their wounded there. While the terrorists turn the house into their headquarters, Yehuda Asulin, Dan's father, holds the safe room door shut and prevents the terrorists from entering the room where the rest of the family is staying
The terrorists evacuate their wounded in the trunk of a jeep and retreat from the moshav. They leave behind in the family home a great deal of destruction, blood, ammunition, and the map of the moshav on which the house of the Ravshatz was marked
Security cameras record another squad with three terrorists entering the Thai workers' residence in the moshav. The terrorists order them to hand over the phones. They take clothes from them to disguise their identity - and leave the premises
A security camera records the entry of a Counter-Terror squad into the moshav. On the WhatsApp group, residents report places where terrorists are seen. Rafi Levy, a member of the security squad who spent the weekend at a resort in the north, contacts the forces remotely.
The fighters of the Police Negev Border Recon (Magen) Unit arrive at the moshav and evacuate the boy Atalla Abu-Madigam for medical treatment while overcoming ambushes of terrorists on the way out of the moshav. The boy is admitted to Soroka Hospital in serious condition, but the quick evacuation saves his life.
Defense forces manage to capture the three terrorists walking around the moshav area while dressed in the clothes of workers from Thailand. Residents of Mivtahim remain in the safe rooms for about 30 hours for fear of the presence of more terrorists. Most members of the moshav are then evacuated to Eilat
