The residents of Netivot wake up to a continuous sequence of alarms. The city's situation room dispatches a patrol team from the municipal security unit (the OFEK unit) that sets up a checkpoint at the main entrance to the city. The purpose of the barrier is to direct residents entering the city to reach a shelter quickly
A civilian who was hit by gunfire in the Sderot area managed to drive his vehicle to the entrance to Netivot. A resident who is a member of the security unit gives him initial treatment on the ground. A few minutes pass, and three more civilians with gunshot wounds arrive. The wounded are reported to have been hit by gunfire on Highway 34 at the route from Sderot to Yakhini. Among the injured was Shmuel Ben Abu, who was critically wounded and evacuated to Soroka Hospital by security guard Yisrael Shvili.
Due to the number of civilians with gunshot wounds arriving at the entrance to the city, the municipality announces a terrorist incursion in the area. All 30 members of the Municipal Security Unit are dispatched. They shut down all entrances to the city. The Municipal Security Unit members and police officers from the Netivot Police set up checkpoints along Highway 25 - at the Mazleg, Tkuma, and Saad junctions. A municipal police patrol car heads to Kfar Aza due to reports of terrorists in the kibbutz.
Defense forces in the area manage to spot a terrorist squad traveling from the direction of Beeri. Some of the terrorists took part in massacres inside the kibbutz. The terrorists encounter a police force on Route 232 - and are eliminated. Netivot forces will only find out about this later when they find footage from the terrorists' car camera, in which they are seen shouting: “Where is Netivot? Our mission is in Netivot, soon you will see wonders! “
The Emergency Division receives an intelligence alert about five terrorists on Route 34 making their way to Netivot from Sderot. These are terrorists who shot a security guard in the Yakhini area and took over his vehicle. A few minutes later, two terrorists storm the entrance to the city in the stolen security vehicle. The security unit spots them at Hamazleg Junction, shoots at them, and they flee west onto Route 25. On their way, the terrorists encounter another checkpoint. They drive past it while one of the terrorists fires at the fighters.
A Municipal Security Unit team pursues the terrorists'' vehicle. The force was joined by an officer from the Yoav unit, Superintendent Keter Tzorn, who recorded the fighting while pursuing the terrorists on his motorcycle. The troops manage to stop the terrorists west of Netivot and kill them. A lot of ammunition was found on the bodies of the terrorists alongside drugs. Later in the day, Superintendent Zoran will be one of the first fighters to enter Kfar Aza and engage in a prolonged battle there.
Dozens of young men who managed to escape the carnage at the Nova party in Re'im begin arriving in Netivot to take shelter. The first group of ravers arrives in a white van, and at first, the municipal forces suspect that they are terrorists due to reports of terrorists with vans in the area. Once they were revealed not to be a threat, the young men entered the city and received treatment. The incident caused panic after a picture of the van circulated, and the head of the emergency department, Yogev Hazan, issued a calming video in which he explained that it was not terrorists.
A third terrorist squad that was heading east, apparently for Netivot, is eliminated at a checkpoint set up by security forces at the Saad-Kfar Aza intersection
During nonstop rocket fire, a rocket hits the Fahimi family home in Netivot, killing three members of the family: grandfather Refael Fahimi (63), son-in-law Netanel Maskalchi (36), and son Rafael Meir Maskalchi (12). Netanel and son Raphael had just returned from praying between alarms when the rocket fell inside the house. Rafael was killed on the spot, his father and grandfather were evacuated to a hospital, and their deaths were later determined. In total, nine rockets fell in the city during the day, causing damage to buildings and infrastructure.
Families rescued from the attack on Beeri and Kfar Aza are temporarily housed in Netivot until they are ordered evacuated to hotels. Residents arrive in buses and military trucks and receive aid. That night, a logistics center for support and assistance with baskets of food and essential products was opened in Netivot. Some evacuees continue north after a few hours, and the rest remain in Netivot until the next day.
The municipality of Netivot expands the makeshift center it has set up to help residents with essential equipment, and many volunteers come to it. At the same time, the city's emergency department receives authorization for holding firearms.
