Yehonatan Hajbi slept in his uncle's housing unit on the grounds of his grandparents' house. His uncle, Ariel Zehavi, who serves as the moshav's Ravshatz (Military Ongoing Security Coordinator), was staying abroad that Saturday. Yehonatan was working on his grandfather's farm, so he decided to stay nearby.
Saadia, Yehonatan's grandfather, hears his neighbor shouting and crying. He goes out to him, and the neighbor explains to him that there are terrorists in Sderot and that he is worried for his son, who lives there. They hear the sound of gunfire and realize there are terrorists nearby. Saadia returns to his house, takes his weapon, and goes up with Yehonatan to the balcony of his house that overlooks the street.
Yehonatan's mother, Keren Zehavi, is at her home in Moshav Yakhini along with her two other children. She sees the video of terrorists in Sderot and writes to her friends that she is “afraid of terrorists infiltrating Yakhini”
A van loaded with terrorists arrives at the moshav's main entrance gate. Three festival attendees from the party in Re'im notice them and run to the moshav to hide, but the terrorists reach them. They murder the man and the two women manage to escape, with one of them wounded. The women shout to the defense forces who have arrived in the area, and the latter begin fighting the terrorists
About five terrorists drive directly toward Saadia's home. The family believes that the terrorists had early information that their son, the Ravshatz of the moshav, lives there. One of the terrorists shouts at them, “Go inside,” and another one gets out of the vehicle and shoots Yehonatan in the chest. Yehonatan tells his grandfather and aunt that he has been injured. His aunt, Hadar, takes him down to one of the rooms inside the house. At the same time, the terrorists throw a grenade onto the balcony, but it does not go off.

Keren's sister calls to inform her that Yehonatan has been shot and wounded. She asks her not to leave the house because the terrorists are roaming through the moshav. Keren tries to call for help and constantly calls Magen David Adom and the police, but no one answers. She updates her friends: “Girls, they shot Yehonatan, I don't know in what state he is. I'm very scared.”
Yehonatan's father, Nir Hajbi, is abroad that Saturday. He receives an update that his son has been shot and wounded. He contacts Keren, his ex-wife and Yehonatan's mother, and tries in every way possible to get help from his acquaintances
Yehonatan's parents are constantly updated and try to call for help. Nir, the father, a Major in a Reserve Division of the Home Front Command, sends a message to his unit and updates them on the situation. Keren's sister, Hadar, treats Yehonatan and contacts a surgeon in an emergency room at Soroka Hospital, who guides her via video call.
Keren's sister realizes that Yehonatan's condition is deteriorating despite her efforts to save his life. She calls Keren, puts her on speakerphone, and asks her to speak to her son. She notices that when Yehonatan hears his mother's voice, he calms down, allowing her to treat him despite the pain

About three hours after he was wounded and lost a lot of blood, Yehonatan dies of his injuries. His parents, Keren and Nir, tried to call for medical help the entire time. His aunt, Hadar, treated him until his final moment. About five minutes later, a Magen David Adom medic arrives and determines his death.
Ariel, Keren's brother and the Moshav's Ravshatz, permits Keren to go to her parents' house to say goodbye to her son
An IDF team arrives to retrieve the grenade that did not go off and was left on the balcony. Zaka personnel arrive at the house and collect Yehonatan's body
Nir Hajbi, Yehonatan's father, manages to board a flight back to Israel. Saadia and his son remained armed, protecting the door of their home until Sunday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., Nir arrived with a military escort and drove the family members to Keren's sister who lives in Afula, where they stayed for a week and a half.
