“We're waiting for you, don't be a hero”

Miran family

The terrorists who broke into the Miran family home came along with the neighbors' son, Tomer Arava Eliaz. At gunpoint, they forced him to persuade the family to open the safe room. Father Omri was kidnapped. Two-year-old Ronnie cried out: “I want my dad.” His wife Lishay had time to call out to him: “I love you, do not be a hero.”

While Omri stands with the baby Alma, a Red Color alarm sounds. Together with Lishay, they enter the safe room, where Ronnie is sleeping. Omri and Lishay lock the safe room door and plan to arrange a suitcase to travel to Omri's father who lives in the north. When there is a break from the sirens, Lishay leaves the safe room to prepare food for the little girls and returns to the room.

A squad of about five terrorists infiltrates the Miran home through the kitchen window and points the weapons at the safe door. With the terrorists, there is one hostage they forced to move between the houses as bait: the family's neighbor, 17-year-old Tomer Arava Eliaz. With a weapon pointed at him, Tomer asks to open the door of the safe room, otherwise the terrorists will kill him and them together - the Miran family comply with his request.

The terrorists take the parents out of the safe room along with Alma. They scan their home in search for weapons, while interrogating Omri, threatening to kill him and pointing the weapon at him.

After the terrorists become convinced that Omri has no weapons, they take him with Lishay and the two little girls to the house of the neighboring Idan family. The terrorists seat all the hostages together in the kitchen and record them live on Facebook. This is the last time they see the neighbors' teenage son Tomer. According to an IDF's investigation, there is a high probability that Tomer later managed to escape from the terrorists, but was accidentally killed by fire from Israeli forces

The terrorists leave the house and kidnap Omri to Gaza while he is handcuffed. Together with him, Tzahi Idan, as well as Judith and Natalie Raanan, who are later the first hostages Hamas releases, are kidnapped. Lishay tells Omri she loves him and asks him not to be a hero: "We are waiting for you; I am guarding our girls, and don't be a hero." Ronnie, his little daughter pried out of his hands, tries to run after him and says, “I want my dad.” The terrorists order the remaining members of the family to sit down and not move while telling them in English: “Don't worry they will be back”.

Dad, my brothers, my sister, my Lishay, my love, Ronnie and Alma, my precious daughters. This year we haven't been able to celebrate any holiday together because of this bloody war. I hope we can all celebrate together on Independence Day's next holiday. I've been in Hamas captivity for 202 days.”
