Ronen and Karina Angel were home with their daughters Mika (18) and Yuval (10) on Saturday morning with their dogs. Ronen stayed outside the safe room to protect his family but was killed, and his body was taken to Gaza. Karina, Mika, and Yuval were kidnapped and released after 52 days.

Every Saturday morning, the couple Karina and Ronen would wake up early and take their two dogs for a walk in the kibbutz. That Saturday, Karina asked Ronen to be the one to walk the dogs.
Like the other kibbutz residents, the Angel family is used to red color alarm, but Karina felt that the situation was more serious this time. Ronen, who volunteers as a medic in Magen David Adom, calls the organization's regional coordinator and offers his help. Due to the lack of personal protective equipment like a vest and helmet, Ronen was told to stay home and not go outside.
Ronen notices from the window of his house, which overlooks the kibbutz's bypass road, that terrorists are coming on motorcycles. He alerts everyone about it through the kibbutz app
Karina leaves the safe room and notices from the bedroom window that the access road outside their house is crowded with armed terrorists. Ronen asks her to go back into the safe room while he stays in the living room with his weapon.
The terrorists throw a grenade, and Ronen falls after trying to protect his wife and daughters, who were hiding in the safe room. Karina holds onto the door, but the armed terrorists manage to break in. Armed only with a knife, Karina tries to resist but ultimately has to surrender, and they force her outside.
Karina notices that Ronen is not in the living room and updates her sister that he was kidnapped. The terrorists put her on a motorcycle and take her to Gaza. Karina was kidnapped before extensive destruction was caused in the kibbutz of Nir Oz. Her daughters remained in the safe room.
About half an hour after their parents were kidnapped, the terrorists find Mika and Yuval in the safe room and kidnap them too

Tom, the soldier son of Karina and Ronen, was in his unit in Howwarah in the West Bank and tried to contact them without success.
