When the red alerts began in Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, 72-year-old Moses Rosen and his 73-year-old wife, Diana, took refuge in their home's safe room. They turned on the TV to stay updated on the unfolding events outside.

Despite the efforts of the Kibbutz’s civil security squad, the terrorists managed to breach its defenses. About half an hour later, Diana left the safe room to get water and spotted armed men in uniform through the window. Mistaking them for the civil security squad, she called Moses, and they both retreated to the safe room. In retrospect, they realized the gunmen were terrorists.

Six terrorists breached the Rosen family house, five of them armed. They vandalized the property and tried to break down the door to the safe room, but Moses and Diana firmly held the door and struggled against them. The terrorists fired at the handlebar, hitting the couple, and continued to fire at the door until they managed to break in.

Moses was severely injured in his hand, and the terrorists ordered the couple to sit in the living room as they awaited instructions from their commanders. They rummaged through the fridge, took food, and vandalized the house while another terrorist packed the couple's valuables into a cardboard box.

The terrorists attempted to abduct the Rosens using a scooter parked outside the house, but they were unable to start it. Instead, they forced Diana and Moses to walk toward the fence separating the Kibbutz’s residential area from the agricultural fields outside the Kibbutz.

The terrorists reached a small breach in the fence and passed through one by one. The last terrorist, who was next to Moses and Diana, ordered them to go through the breach, but Moses showed the terrorist his hand injury, saying, "We must head to Soroka hospital." The terrorist threatened Moses with his weapon, replying, "No, we're heading to Gaza." Moses clarified, "No, we are going back home!" He held Diana’s hand, and they both turned back and started running toward their house.

The couple returned to their devastated home and discovered Diana's phone beneath a blanket in the safe room. She called their son, Jonathan, to update him on what had happened and asked him for help finding shelter.

Jonathan calls Moses and Diana’s neighbor, asking him to assist his parents. The neighbor brought them to his home and led them to the safe room, where his wife was at. He contacted his son, a doctor, and shared photos of Moses's injury. The neighbor’s son instructed them to apply a tourniquet to Moses's hand. Meanwhile, the neighbor's wife contacted the rescue forces, but they informed her they could not arrive due to ongoing battles in the area.

Several kibbutz members and the LOTAR Unit (special operations forces) arrived at the house. The team evacuated Moses and Diana in a military vehicle to Urim Junction, as the soldiers treated Moses's injury during the trip.

A rescue vehicle awaited at Urim Junction to transport Moses and Diana to Soroka Hospital. Later that night, a nurse informed them that the hospital could not treat them due to the high number of casualties being treated at that time.

Moses and Diana were evacuated by ambulance to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital. The following day, Diana underwent surgery and was informed that she would need to have a finger on her right hand amputated. Meanwhile, Moses faced a series of surgeries in an attempt to save his left hand.
