On Friday evening, siblings Dafna (27) and Yoav (24) arrive at Kibbutz Be’eri — Dafna, who serves as an active soldier, and Yoav is on reserve duty — to spend the holiday with their parents, Yishai and Yael. When the alarms begin, Yael and the children retreat to the safe room. Yishai, the head of security at Be’eri’s printing house, steps outside with his personal firearm, surveying the area and documenting the unfolding events in the kibbutz. Mai, the family dog, follows him closely

The residents of Be’eri receive a warning about a terrorist infiltration into the kibbutz. Yishai and the family dog, Mai, return home. Mai runs into the safe room, while Yishai remains outside, patrolling the area around the house. For several hours, he moves in and out of the house intermittently, surveying the surroundings to ensure his family's safety

When terrorists seize control of the eastern section of the kibbutz — the area where the family lives — Yishai returns home. He locks the door behind him and enters the safe room

Terrorists reach the entrance of the Admati family's house. They shatter the outer glass door but fail to break through the wooden one. Hearing the commotion, Mai stands alert by the safe room door. Yishai emerges from the safe room with his firearm, and Mai follows at his side. He fires several rounds at the terrorists, apparently striking them, and they retreat from the scene.

The front door remains open. Yishai returns to the safe room and informs his family that he has fired at the terrorists. The family dog, Mai, runs out of the house and disappears

Throughout the day, Dafna exchanges messages with an acquaintance. At 1:25 p.m., he asks, “Is the army with you?” Dafna replies, “They kidnapped our neighbors.” Meanwhile, Mai, the family dog, arrives at Be’eri’s printing house — Yishai’s workplace — and slips inside. She crawls into an electrical cabinet where a factory employee has been hiding since morning, and stays by her side

From Dafna’s Conversation with a Friend
Dafna
A terrorist broke into our house. My dad shot him — the whole place is a mess, but the main thing is that everyone’s alive.

Around ten IDF soldiers arrive at the family’s home and knock on the safe room door. Yishai calls out, “I’m armed. If you’re not soldiers, I’ll shoot.” Eventually, he opens the door, and the family steps outside. They offer the soldiers refreshments. The troops then escort the family to another house in the neighborhood, as the fighting outside rages on

The family is evacuated from the kibbutz and taken by bus to Netivot. From there, they continue to Kibbutz Ein Gedi. Later that day, soldiers reach Be’eri’s printing house and rescue the factory worker who has been hiding there with the Admati's family dog, Mai
