As Color Red alarms begin in Beeri, the couple Adi and Hadas Dagan wake up, but do not go into the safe room.
Yasmin Porat and Tal Katz, who fled the Nova party and arrived in Beeri, seek shelter in the kibbutz and knock on the Dagan family door. Adi and Hadas open the door and let them in. Hadas tries to calm Tal, who was in a state of anxiety, and Adi makes coffee for everyone. Shortly thereafter, the four enter the safe room.
The terrorists arrive to the Ashalim neighborhood where Adi and Hadas live. When they realize that the terrorists are close to the house, Tal and Yasmin decide to hide and go inside a wardrobe found in the safe room.
Terrorists infiltrate the house and try to break into the safe room without success - Adi and Hadas hold the door tightly and prevent them from entering. Suhaib Abu Amer al-Razam, an East Jerusalem shuttle driver kidnapped by terrorists at the Nova party, sees Adi and Hadas through the window of the safe room and tries to persuade them to leave. After a prolonged struggle, the terrorists fire an RPG and blow up the safe room door. They find Tal and Yasmin in the closet and take them outside together with Adi and Hadas Dagan. About 10 terrorists take the four into the dining area at Pessi Cohen's home, who lives nearby in the Kibbutz. Fourteen hostages are now concentrated in Pessi's home. According to the testimonies, about forty terrorists were in the house and in the nearby houses, armed with guns, grenades, and RPG launchers.
One of the commanders of the terrorists in the house, Hassan Hamduna, makes Yasmin Porat the liaison between him and the security forces. Hamduna instructs Yasmin to call the police hotline and demand that terrorists be allowed safe passage from the kibbutz into Gaza. After a brief conversation Yasmin has with a policewoman, one of the terrorists demands to talk to a policeman in Arabic. He tells the policeman: “I'm from the al-Qassam Brigades... If you cause trouble, I'll kill one of the hostages. There are 50 people here.” The policeman replies: “What's the problem?“. The terrorist replies: “The problem is that I want to take all of them to Gaza. If you don't tell the army to grant us a safe passage, all 50 will be killed.” Yasmin tells the policewoman that at the house there is one person dead and one injured.
Security forces arrive close to the house. The terrorists, who had earlier taken six hostages into the courtyard of the house, including Adi, Hadas and Tal Katz, go back in and leave them outside. According to an IDF investigation, the the presence of hostages in the courtyard does not reach all the forces on the ground. About 10 minutes later, a fire exchange begins between the security forces and the terrorists
At the end of negotiations between the security forces and the terrorists, the terrorist Hassan Hamduna surrenders. He strips off his clothes and is left in only his underwear, clinging to Yasmin from behind, putting his arm around her neck while the two make their way towards the policemen. They ask him to strip completely. He does so and is allowed to approach them. Security forces question Yasmin about the number of terrorists in the house, the hostages condition and their location
Hamduna urges the terrorists who were with him at the house to surrender - but they do not follow. A tank positioned in front of Pessi Cohen's home receives an order around 4:30pm to fire warning shots near the house. These are followed by heavy fire between the parties
The tank fires a second time - this time in front of the house. About 7 minutes later, he fires another shell to the same place. An additional police squad arrives at the house and tries to convince the terrorists to surrender. They refuse to come out and continue shooting
The tank crew is instructed to fire again, this time to the roof of the house, to allow the entrance of the Counter Terrorism unit. The shell shrapnel hit Adi and lead to his death. Hadas is also injured by the shrapnel.
During a house takeover operation lasting over an hour, the force rescues Hadas, who is evacuated to Soroka Hospital
