Odaia and the Malihi children hurried into their house’s safe room as Matan, the family’s father, and a Security squad member, lay in ambush in an adjacent room, armed with a pistol and ten bullets. The terrorists entered the house repeatedly, tossing grenades. Matan shot one of them and beat him to death, then went outside to assist his neighbors

As red color alarms blare throughout Kibbutz Ein HaShlosha, Matan Malihi (33), his wife Odaia (34), and their three children quickly enter their house’s safe room. Matan is a member of the kibbutz's security squad and possesses a pistol at home for his protection. He checks the security squad's WhatsApp group, where the kibbutz's Ravshatz (military security coordinator), Rami Negbi, notifies of a suspected terrorist infiltration into the region

About half an hour after the alerts begin in the kibbutz, Rami Negbi, the kibbutz's Ravshatz (military security coordinator), sends a message to the security squad members, requesting their presence at the kibbutz's secretariat. Matan replies, "If needed, I'm here."
Matan hears voices speaking in Arabic outside his house and realizes there is no point in going out armed only with a pistol. He grabs his pistol, loads it with ten bullets, and waits for the terrorists in a room adjacent to the safe room. Meanwhile, Odaia firmly holds the handle of the safe room door while guiding the children through yoga exercises
The terrorists outside the house smash the bedroom window and throw a hand grenade into it. The explosion destroys both of the house's bedrooms, but Matan and his family remain unharmed. Meanwhile, Odaia hides their children under a bed, recalling how her grandfather hid under his bed when the Nazis were searching for him in Nazi-occupied Europe
Matan notices that his neighbor Silvia Mirensky's house is on fire. He leaves his home and joins Dov Zaguri, a fellow kibbutz resident and an armed police officer. They rush to the burning house and attempt to break through the window shields. The terrorists spot them and open fire but don't hit them. Matan rushes back home, waiting for the terrorists to breach his house. Later that day, it is revealed that Silvia has suffocated to death in her safe room

The terrorists breach the Malihis' home, going through the living room, eating and chatting among themselves. A few minutes later, one of them aims his Kalashnikov at the safe room. Matan, hiding in the next room, fires and hits him. The terrorist falls, and the others flee the house. Matan steps out and seizes the terrorist's rifle, but suddenly the terrorist gets back up, screaming. Matan drags him into another room and beats him until he stops moving. Afterward, he washes the blood off himself, enters the safe room, and tells his wife, “It’s all right; I’ve just killed a terrorist. Be quiet; they will return."

At 9:55, Matan receives a call from his friend from the military service, Achia Sharvit. Matan doesn’t answer, but a moment later, Achia sends him a message: “I am available; talk to me.” After the battle inside the house, Matan continues to ambush the terrorists outside the safe room. He updates his friend: “There are no soldiers in the kibbutz, and the terrorists are going through each house. They’ve come here twice already."
The terrorists enter the house two more times. Matan updates Achia: “They’re walking around here freely; there’s no army. This is the fourth time they’ve entered the house.” About 20 minutes later, Achia, who lives in the settlement of Avigayil in southern Mount Hebron, replies, “I’m heading out toward you.” Matan warns him that it won’t help, but Achia calls another friend, Ashriel Deri, who lives in the same settlement. They grab weapons from the emergency room in their settlement and set out for Ein HaShlosha
On the way to Ein HaShlosha, Achia and Ashriel stop at the Nir Oz intersection, where they encounter a unit of Israel's Border Police combatants. They inform the officers about the terrorists in Ein HaShlosha, and the eight combatants join them, driving to the kibbutz together. Upon arrival, Achia updates Matan: “We are at the entrance to the kibbutz.” About half an hour later, Odaia, Matan, and the children, still hiding in the safe room, hear the terrorists in the apartment above them.
Matan meets Achia, Ashriel, and the security force. Knowing that contact with the kibbutz's military security coordinator, Rami Negbi, has been lost for hours, he assumes command of the kibbutz's security, dividing the combat squad and civil security members into various areas to search the kibbutz and ensure terrorists aren't present
Matan asks Ashriel to evacuate his family from the kibbutz to Odaia's parents' home in the settlement Susya, located in southern Mount Hebron. After completing his patrol in the kibbutz, Ashriel drives Odaia and the children to her parent's house before returning to his home. Meanwhile, Matan helps other families evacuate the kibbutz independently. When Odaia steps out of the safe room and sees the destruction in her house, she reflects, “The life I had has been ruined.”
The IDF arrives to evacuate the kibbutz members, but Matan stays behind to secure the area alongside several members of the Security Squad
After staying with Matan's parents for a few weeks, Odaia and the children join fellow kibbutz members at a hotel in Eilat. Shortly afterward, they relocate to the village of Avigayil in southern Mount Hebron
The Malihi's relocate with fellow Kibbutz members to Netivot
