Sirens and incessant barrages awakened residents of Ofakim's building, HaGoren 152. 78-year-old Elizaveta Kostzin invited neighbors to her apartment, but she and 86-year-old Emma Polyakov were murdered. The Kozlov family barricaded themselves in their apartment with their children, enduring hours of terror.

Hearing the sirens, parents Natalia and Alexander Kozlov together with their children Lavie (4) and Ariel (10 months) run to the stairwell of the building. In the Kozlov family house there is no safe room and the shelter of the building is too far away for them reach in time.
Natalia's neighbor, Elizaveta Kostzin, 78, is corresponding with Natalia to understand what is happening: “What are these booms? My daughter says it's from Gaza.”
Natalia informs Elizaveta that they are going to the stairwell at the time of the sirens. Elizaveta offers Natalia to stay with her, since her apartment is located in the back and one of the walls is adjacent to the shelter of the building.
Natalia writes in the WhatsApp group of her friends that there is a shooting near their apartment. Alex, her husband, tries to call the police and is not successful.
The terrorists arrive at the building and open with gunfire. Elizaveta told her daughter that she had called neighbors to come and hide at her place. It is believed that Elizaveta was standing near the front door when she was shot and died. Natalia and Alex try to contact the police and the Magen David Adom and ask their friends to call for help - but without success.
For about 12 hours Natalia and Alex hide in the bedroom with their small children. They turn off the lights and correspond with family members through messages so they won't be heard. Natalia's sister who also lives in Ofakim, warns her not to answer the door: “Make no sound. Be quiet.”
In the evening, after about 12 hours of hiding in silence in the dark house while crawling into the kitchen to prepare food for the baby, Natalia and Alex decide to quickly leave the city. Alex goes out to check if the vehicle is fit for the trip, he and Natalia prepare a bag and drive to family members in the north. They emerge at the sight of glass scattered on the floor of the house, the smell of blood in the building and there are bodies of terrorists scattered on the street.
Documentation of the building on the day after the events
A week later the Kozlov family returns from the north to Ofakim. They initially settle in with Alex's mother, and decide to clean their house and return. For a month and a half, they experience emotional difficulties, and fail to stay in their home. They decide to look for a house to start over, and a month and a half later they move to live in Netivot.
